The Lane Studio

The Lane recording studio is a purpose built multi track digital recording studio run by Local musicians Colin Findlay and George Logan. We offer a full recording and production service to bands and musicians alike. Situated in the East Lothian coastal village of Prestonpans, within easy reach of Edinburgh, the studio has been designed from the foundations up, to a level of technical specification creating a high quality professional studio environment at very reasonable rates. The studio provides an ideal comfortable and creative space for the modern musician to concentrate and enjoy what they do best.

The studio is fully equipped to accommodate musicians of all musical genres and styles from pop / rock to traditional music and more. We can also provide musicians to play on your sessions should you require additional backing to create the final sound you are looking for. You can be present from initial tracking sessions through to the final mixing to ensure your musical project evolves as envisaged and we can also arrange professional mastering carried by our online mastering collaborators. We can take your music and guide you through the recording process until the final master CD is produced to your 100% satisfaction. Control Room

The studio control room has been designed around the Argosy Aurora wrap round console desk. The room has been acoustically treated with purpose made wall panels and ceiling clouds to focus the sound to the Engineers mix position to ensure accurate monitoring at all stages of the recording and mixing process. Comfortable seating at the rear of control room enables the artists to sit in during mixing sessions.

Tracking Room

The room was designed as a multi purpose tracking room with splayed walls and ceilings treated with a mixture of bass, broadband and high frequency absorbers and diffusers to tame the room acoustics. One corner of the room is fully treated with acoustic absorbers to act as the vocal booth in order to give the dry up front vocal sound which is a major feature of today`s contemporary music production. The room can be easily rearranged to suit the artists spatial needs and acoustic requirements. Two sets of double glazed acoustic sliding doors separate the two rooms to provide maximum sound isolation but maintaining maximum vision between the mixing and tracking rooms enabling direct line of site between artists and engineer. The glass doors also allow natural daylight into both rooms from the clearstory window sited in the control room rear wall which also provides a view to the sky beyond. The studio is mechanically heated, ventilated and air conditioned. We can also provide a mobile recording Service.

Equipment

The studio is equipped with classic mic / line preamps from legenderay manufacturers such as Rupert Neve Designs, API, Universal Audio, Audient. These are connected to our high quality Lynx digital convertors to get the best performance from our microphones, the sum of which is mixed in the digital environment with hands on mixing via our Mackie control surfaces utilising the most advanced DSP plugins available from Universal Audio, Softube, Soundtoys, Flux & Lexicon complimented by the Bricasti M7 Hardware Stereo Reverb processor.

Custom built i7 PC running Windows 10 professional. Apple Macbook Pro Dual Core. All our computers are optimised for high quality 64 bit audio recording.
